I was also thinking about aquarium silicone, and it it's possible to thin it in some way. I'll do some experiments.
I'm going to make a couple of new pots this week coming .
Plus there is a project for the school auction and I've been asked to do the class project for the auction. Good job I don't have a Job :rofl:

The largest panel I've done is 6 square feet , it's one of the first projects I did. A bit slower in those days , so 300 bits of glass and about a Month of work. I'll do some bigger projects in Holland , my Son wants a whole window sized Dragon . In Europe I can sell stuff as I have a British passport , I was born in Liverpool , like the Beatles :lol:
Here are a couple of pics , the blue tropical Waterlilies have about 30 bits of glass for each one.
And just to keep it orchid relevant here is C. Angel Love x C. Skinneri , wonder fragrance ,small flowers.

WOW! The pot is very pretty. I think maybe too pretty to plant orchids in it directly because I'd be afraid it might be damaged when it comes time to repot. The idea to use it as a cache pot would be the way I would go.

Again, it's really pretty and it was fun to see how it all came together. Thanks for sharing! :)

BTW - your other pieces are also quite beautiful.

First thank you for all the kind words about my work. And I would encourage people to give glass work a try, it's not hard to do . The major trouble is you get addicted to buying glass to work with . With an Orchid addiction to start with , well your in real deep .:rofl:

I do draw them all , but it has to be a good day for drawing
or nothing works .:lol: The Koi window has some mistakes in it and I've redesigned it , just don't have the courage to redo it at the moment.:) I'm designing four or five pots per day in my head , one will come out into the real World this week I hope. Still figuring out what sealant to use , acrylic , silicone , and so on . I've given up on the idea of growing orchids in complex designs , but simple pots may work. By simple I mean pots I can make in an hour or so. If they get damaged I can remake or fix pretty fast. The pot I just did with 50 pieces of glass , it's just way to hard to fix damage . I think for an outer display pot the complex ones will work fine. Something to swap out flowering Orchids as they cycle through . More experiments are called for.

Beautiful glass work! Your pot is amazing and a orchid would certainly display nicely. A window sized dragon, would love to see that! So nice to share with your son.

My two cents - I don't know about orchid root uptake, but I was thinking about how copper oxidizes and releases salts, which might not be ideal for escaping roots. I like the idea of the aquarium sealant because you're right, it can be thinned down (although I don't know how it's done) and it will stand up to loads of running water. You've put a lot of thought and consideration into a very beautiful project. Thank you so much for sharing.

My Boy should be starting to learn a little glass work soon. My Girl has been doing glass work since she was 11 . It's all part of me showing them they can do anything . Seems to work as they have the confidence to give most stuff a try.
I'll try a few experiments with the silicone as the oxidizing copper is a worry.
I've started a new pot , last one for a little while as I have a bunch of other stuff to finish. This one is also not simple , but it's going to be very pretty. I'm doing the sides with a sheet of glass I've had for a few years , a very lovely sheet.

Looking a bit rustic, the intent is instant antique , hand made, not perfect shapes. Texture and weight when held.
Just taking a Band-Aid break , be nice if it was a Coffee Break , but when working with glass it's often just another Band-Aid break :rofl:
