Progress
Tell me if you get bored
Mess at the moment . Thinking of a deep blue for the space between the base and rim.

Beautiful!
So that's some sort of copper in between?
What would you use instead for copper sensitive plants?
Or is the glass pot decorative?

Thanks and help
Thank you for watching and many thanks for enjoying it. Getting to the good bit now faster than I thought. Here is where you guys can help. The solder is Lead and Tin , Copper foil is used and a copper patina at the end. I have some pure Bees Wax and was thinking this may seal the metals away, but for how long ? Someone suggested Spar Varnish. I did a quick search for a natural sealant , no real results. Need someone who knows if the Orchids will take up the metal. A pot can go inside the pot , but the orchid roots will get to the outer pot at some point. I've been thinking about how to seal it since before I started it. Need a solution please.

Done
Well more or less done, still could use a sealant. So , one Tiffany style copper foil and stained glass Orchid pot. About 2 days work , some blood , some acid burns , all minor, did not drop it at the last minute (done that once)
It came out OK , I'll do better next time. First one of something is always a learning curve. Has kind of the organic look I wanted , roots around the pot will help with that. Thanks again for looking in on the thread.

1st
Hi , we went to the National Capital Orchid Society meeting last Monday. That is my son Callum (9) and I. We took two plants for ID and the pot just to see what people thought. It was our first Orchid Society meeting ever , it takes place at the United States National Arboretum . Nancy Mountford the Society President and a very lovely Lady told us to put our pot and plants on the novice table for showing. We got a 1st , I think it was a very kind gesture on the part of the Judges as it was for Callum really. He does not realize we were the only people on the novice table , he is just very pleased with his ribbon.
I hope it's one of many we win together over the coming years. And yes they liked the pot too
Thanks Guys

Very nice.
And nice ribbon.
I couldn't say how orchids take up metals. I do know that certain genera are sensitive to metals though.... I also couldn't recommend a sealant. Hopefully someone with more knowledge comments.

I wonder if you could find a silicone spray sealant for it? Turned out very nice and it is beyond wonderful that you and your son are into the orchids together. I am trying with my daughter.
