Where can I find a psychopsis mendenhall in spike?
I bought 2 psychopsis Mendenhall's on ebay last year for my sister and myself. They were both spiking. My sister's spike turned brown and the whole plant died. Mine bloomed, but after hers died so quickly, I looked mine over very well and discovered some kind of tiny pests in the bark. I immediately repotted and treated it. My psychopsis has been blooming since. It's on it's 3rd bud and I want to find another for my sister. Does anyone know where I can find one besides ebay?
For that matter, tis the season for orchid shows. Google if there are any within a reasonable driving distance for you. Show pages will usually list (or have a link to a list) of vendors who will be at the show. You can then contact the vendors to see who might have spiking Psychopis and ask them to bring one along. This will not only spare you shipping charges, but will also allow you to inspect the plant before buying it.
Seattle Orchids sometimes carries them. You can add it to your wishlist or e-mail them to notify you when they have them in stock.
What did those pests look like? There are such things called springtails that feed on decaying medium, they aren't harmful to the plant though a lot of them might not be a good sign for the medium. I don't worry about them anymore.
The pests were teeny tiny. I don't know what they were, or if they caused my sister's orchid to die, but I changed my medium and all is right with my Hildo's.
My sister was so sad that I am on this quest. I tried to give her mine, but she wouldn't take it.
I live in Oklahoma, and the only orchid show that I know of is in April 2 hours away on a weekend I have out of state company.
