New spike growing under bottom leaf has bloom opening what happened?
I have this crazy phal its a year old it has finally produced a spike but that's not the amazing part it has a bloom opening up already but the spike is still growing from the plant. I have never seen anything like this before. Will the spike continue to grow up and out of the plant or is this the final stage of its growth.

Is this a named phal?
What light source are you using, and from what angle?
I have a spike forming on a phal and it's heading up towards the light. (I know some spikes are more pendant than others though.)

The spike looks like it has grown in on itself and has been unable to grow outwards away from the plant as it should.
At least you got a bloom; I had one plant with an ingrown spike this fall and, as the tip was embedded in the plant and the bottom kept growing, it finally snapped itself in two.

Not sure what the name is now, my light source is my front room window. Yes all the orchids I have and had they have the spikes growing in the right place. It was very weird that the spike grew like this sad it only has one pretty purple flower. Will it ever grow a normal spike?

Update on spike growing under bottom leaf bloom fully opened
This is an update on my mimi phal that just couldn't get it right. It started off on good progress then as the spike grew under the bottom leaf it got stuck there the bottom leaf was to strong it would not let the spike move and then up and out. Upon further inspection I noticed it did not grow back into itself but just could not pass that bottom leaf so I cut off the leaf was causing the problem, and now it looks like it may have enough room to grow out. I hope by doing this did not harm my phal

The saying they use here is if its green, dont be mean. Did you sterilize the knife? Did you use a little cinnamon on the stem? Dont stress now though, it will probably be fine

For the future, don't cut the leaf. In the case of our Orchids the flower really isn't doing anything for the plant unless you plan to pollinate. The flowers only natural purpose is to reproduce. Whereas the leaf absorbs and transforms sunlight into nutrients. In other words the leaf is more important to the plant in the long run than that flower. Next time leave the bloom be deformed or not. It's not a good idea to cut a healthy leaf, especially just for the sake of one flower.

New spike growing under leaf
Thanks everyone for your feedback. Upon your advice I will never cut a healthy leaf again, I just did not know how to fix it. Next year if it happens again I will leave it in tact.
I did try to hand pollinate my other orchid with this pollen but I could not remove the cap so I just left it alone.
