Is this a basal keiki on my phalaenopsis orchid? Female
Default Is this a basal keiki on my phalaenopsis orchid?

Hi, I have had this orchid for over four years and it flowers beautifully quite regularly. It has grown extra leaves out of it's base and it looks like a whole new plant. Do I just leave this alone? My orchid is going mad at the moment and I need to repot it, I understand that I should wait until it has finished blooming first? I have attached a picture albeit not very clear! Thank you in advance.

yes it does look like a basal keiki, probably best to wait until its finished flowering to repot it.

don't think that you can remove the basal keiki but it should flower at the same time as the main plant in future.

some more experienced growers may chip in soon if im wrong.

Yup. Basal keiki.
You can remove it if you want. But I much prefer to keep them attached. Bigger flower show.
Are the flowers open? I find that I can repot while in tiny bud stage, or when all of the flowers are fully opened.
Anything in the middle and and I lose them.
No harm in waiting though.
Lovely plant btw.

Thank you all. I will leave it be especially if it will eventually flower too! I find orchids fascinating. Here is a picture of the flowers on the orchid at the moment.
