Hi,
this is the third bloom for this Lc. no ID (lost) and each time I seem to be getting different flower color. A couple of weeks ago, when the buds came out of the sheath, I thought they were going to blast: they were much smaller and darker than last year. When the first flower started to open I went back to check pics, I couldn't believe how dark it turned out. Although I lost the tag from this one, the only thing I remember that it's Lc and it looks like one of the parents was bifoliate (one of the pbs has two leaves). I haven't changed anything in the "cultural arrangements" since I got it, and the flowers do get a little lighter as they mature, but this year's bloom seems to be considerable darker. Could it be enviro factors, or is it just getting confused?
The bifoliar pseudobulb shows on the last photo.

Yes the environment can play into the color of the bloom. I have some that bloom twice a year and the cooler blooms are much more vibrant then the summer bloom.

It is possible for unifoliates to grow an additional leaf and have zero bifoliate parent in the mix. Everyone once in a while a unifoliate species will develop a second leaf.

I've found that a change in light can also cause a change in bloom color, size and substance. Stronger light, all three of these characteristics are stronger.
