Default Sick NOID Phal otherwise STRONG grower

I have a Phal NOID that is normally a very strong plant and produces a large spike of beautiful big and white Phal flowers a couple of times per year.

recently noticed some leafs browning in certain areas. Now noticing the tops of the roots on top of the media are browning also.

I can't find any bugs or similar anywhere on the plant - but I have zero experience in that area (knock on wood).

Can someone take a look at the pics and let me know your thoughts?

TIA!

It's under T5HOs that have bulbs that are a year past due for replacement, but yes I am getting some purple tints on leaves of some of my Catts so I suspected that too.

I bought a light meter and the lights are running under the FC's typically required. They are also timed with the sun cycle...so I don't know.

A Phal requires somewhat less light than a Catt. How close is it to the lights?

This shelf is at most 1000 FCs, and plant is probably 8" to 10" from the light fixtures.

Is the shelf near a window that would be getting bright light for part of a day? It still looks like sunburn to me, but other than that, I can't really think what it could be

Just looked at your photo again. All of the damage is facing the same way. Even the tall upright leaf has a tinge of yellow on the same edge as the bad parts on the other leaves..

That's what is unusual. The growing area is in a dark basement.

The only thing I can think of is I do bring it upstairs when it's in bloom, maybe that's it! Maybe it's getting just enough natural light from the window it's near to cause the burn even if it isn't a tremendous amount.

That makes sense, and is a relief. Hopefully it will recover just fine - it's been back in the basement for at least a month now. Just now getting around to inquire about it.

Thanks Silken!

Even if its not really high light, if it is more than what it was used to it could burn. And it might just be as the sun comes up and hits the window, it is very bright for an hour or two that you didn't notice. That's my thought. You could cut the dead parts off and rub a bit of cinnamon on the cut edges. But if it isn't spreading, it won't hurt to leave it on either. If it is sunburn it should make a full recovery. That part will remain as it but the plant will grow fine.

I agree it looks like sunburn, but as to the roots, I would repot it deeper so those roots are covered and they will not dry out so much.
