Advice for mounted orchids while on vacation?
Default Advice for mounted orchids while on vacation?

I've seen threads for this before, but was wondering if anyone had any advice what I should do with my mounted orchids for a week in Feb? I have a rather dry apartment in Ontario, Canada, and I'm going to Mexico at the end of the month.

I have a chiloschista (in spike), a decent size vanda, cucumber dendrobium, dendrobium lodigessii, den pierardii, eurychone, and a couple other tiny guys. They are thriving on being watered daily, but obviously I won't be able to do that while I'm away.

This is the first time I've gone away since acquiring these orchids. If anyone has any tips or tricks, please let me know

It might be possible to leave them in the care of my friend, but she has never cared for a plant before and I don't want to have to bother her with it.

I'd bother her. It would be good for you to have someone check in on your place, turn on lights, etc. makes the place seem lived in.

Failing that, perhaps raise humidity around them somehow?

I was gone for a week last November. Watered everything thoroughly the day I left. When I came back they all looked fine but ready for a good soaking, which they received.

I wouldn't sweat a week. Any more though and I'd find a plant-sitter.

¡Buen viaje!
