Question masdevallia (Bellavallia™) re-flower ??? ever???

Hi everyone ...I've asked before about the fertilizing for this plant and everyone said mild fertilizing.

But how do I get it to flower again? Winter rest or not?

I put the dendrobium nobile in the wine fridge for 2-3 weeks last year and this year again. Last year I got flowers and this year something is happening again. But what to do with the Masdevallia????

Are there any general rules about Masdevallias...specifically mine is labelled as Bellavallia™?

Thx again

I just started keeping Masdevallias, so I'm certainly no expert, but I haven't seen any Masdevallias that require a dormancy or dry period. The only seasonal change should be the length of time the lights are on.

First question, how long has it been since the last flower?

If the plant looks healthy for a year but doesn't flower, it could need more light?

Just my guess...good luck!

About a year since the last flowering but I was told by the seller that they flower all year long on and off.

I already moved it to get more light...maybe it nudges it in the right direction.

If you dry it out, you could kill the plant.
masdevallias dont like ANY form of dormancy except for maybe 2 species.

The only Masdevallia I know that needs a dry period to induce flowering is Masd. angulata. But I doubt that this is the reason for your missing flowers.

Bellavallia is a registered trade mark for several Masdevallia hybrids produced by the Hassinger brothers in Wiesbaden, Germany. They belong to the Neon group, a joint venture of 6 independent nurseries who are dedicated orchid producers.

Now what might be your problem? Masdevallias originate from high altitudes, where there is a significant drop of temperature at night, 10-15°C lower than at daytime. The other factor is high intensity of ultraviolet light. Some Masdevellias flower year round, but many species only flower once a year and inherit this habit to their progeny.
Some species are reluctant bloomers even under good conditions, but selected Bellavallias should not belong to the last group.
So provide good care and be patient.
