Kids not only take up space, but time you could use to care for your orchids. The day is coming when I'll need to have The Talk with mine.

It was really hard to give away the better orchids, like the hybrid Cattleyas and zygos, easier for me to give away the Paphs, oncidiums and noID orchids.
As for the kids, unfortunately, they are leaving on their own. The youngest is going to be going off to college in the fall and I am certainly going to miss her.

Haha but really though some of you people have 300 and I don't even understand.
Maybe once I've graduated and have big people money, I, too, will get too many orchids.

Maybe better to grow fewer plants very well than have too many that are just hanging on just to say the census is large and over the top.

Can I maybe tie up the leaves with pantyhose or something? LOL! I really love the Oncidium alliance. I have 11 of them in total and one NOID Zygo that I got to see if I could grow them. Three have fairly small growth habits. One I think has been over potted by the grower, so I am going to depot it and find out what the roots look like. My Oncidium Wild Willie though, I love it and the pseudobulbs are all growing out to the sides and even though it only has four pbulbs, it takes up the most space on the shelf because the leaf span on this thing is over a foot and the leaves are growing in all kinds of directions. . It came to me like that. Would it be possible to train them to grow a bit straighter? That would actually help loads, if I could stick another plant in a six inch pot beside it.

My daughter went off to college and the orchids moved into her room.....just saying... when she comes home ONLY to do laundry she has to share her room. and has learned how to keep the fan only and refill the humidifier, etc...

No, I cannot use my daughters' rooms for any of my plants. Years ago, I discovered that if I put them out of sight, they are quickly out of mind. Plus, I really enjoy having my indoor garden where I see it...and smell it (Most of my orchids are fragrant).
I currently have seventy-five orchids and many other plants so, to be honest, I don't really want to make more space for more plants. I already have something in bloom every day of the year which is what I had hoped to achieve.

Yeah several bloom size ones 2 huge SVO bloom size ones that I won by chance on eBay....total I think I lost 8 CTSM. and about 15 other orchids. Some kind of weirdness came in with a black pearl CTSM I bought and it just spread no matter how hard I tried the phulbs just became squishy rotted nasty. I would see them on a Monday and on a Thursday I see them completely fallen over half way down the cane gone. I quit buying for a while to just try and get it to go away.
So now I have a Minn millennium growing like a weed and a cyanide golden shower and coming from Seattle orchid on Monday a Coryanthes Macranthum. I am really looking at just specific sellers I have had the best LUCK with now.
