Do orchids really have healthy benefits? Female
Default Do orchids really have healthy benefits?

Dear all,

I came across a shampoo range with orchid essence at my local supermarket and didn't think much of the healthy and/or beauty benefits of orchids. I started researching to find that there are many articles on orchids known for its many qualities to soothe, hydrate, moisturise and condition our skin acting as an antioxidant and humectant. Its also been promoted to reduce fine lines and wrinkles to help with ageing.

Has anyone tried using orchids for health or beauty benefits? Please share your thoughts

Cheers,
Truti

Hadn't even heard of such use, beyond vanilla anyway. I use coconut oil, alo vera, and tea tree oil for skin and hair. Established benefits, and they don't cost a lot either.

I'd be very interested to learn of any health benefits from orchids, however. Any particular orchid type? What part of the plant? Scientific studies?

I was considering that aroma therapy with Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis could be an outstanding success.............

Many plants have chemicals that we can take advantage of, and orchids being a very large plant family, I'm sure many are good for us although I only know one.

I read that dendrobium nobile has been used by the Chinese for certain medicinal purpose.
For what, I don't know.

Orchids growing is definitely good for mental and emotional health, although it may be a little hard on the physical health. too much work
Their flowers are great for eyes!
Many smell good which is good for uplifting our moods.

Good one.

Shampoo in particular is prone to fad advertising.

Just thinking about it briefly; protein, DNA, pH balance, aloe, vitamins, essential oils, amino acids, collagen, secret emollients, a gazillion aromas, and enriched oils have been advertised as revolutionary shampoo ingredients.

However, caring for plants and enjoying their successes is therapeutic.

Undoubtedly there are some orchid plant components that could be beneficial, as with other plants. After all, we even eat a wide variety of plants.

Recent studies indicate that catfish slime has healing benefits.

I know vandas have antioxidant biomarkers and can be used for skin protection against uv rays and there are medicines from vandas to treat blindness.

Here is a list of the use of orchids for medicinal purposes:
