I have purchased this orchid six months ago. At the time of purchase it did not have any flower. I had changed the barks inside the pot but the pot itself remained the same until now. Two months ago it started to grow a spike (see the picture). The spike did stop growing. There is no grow for the last two months.
Humidity of the room where I keep it is around 65% and the temp is around 22 C. The room is facing north and not getting any direct sunlight at all. I do the watering between 7-10 days. I use a fertilizer once a month (see the picture). Again pour some of this fertilizer in water and spray some every morning to the leaves of my orchid. I open the window 2-3 times a day to let fresh air in. The pot was by the window and beneath was heater. I moved the pot from there to a table near the window.
I have got a few other orchids. I had applied keiki and two months later they started growing buds. Some of the buds are turning yellow (see the picture).
What do I really have to do for them to bloom? What am I doing wrong? Please advice me something.
Looks healthy to me your orchid.
When you're opening the window, do you put the orchid away from the cold air coming in ? Cold drafts can harm the buds.
A north window could be too dark in winter even for phals.
Warm air blowing on the spike, as well as cold drafts from the window could cause buds to die.
Keep the plant from being blown on by the heat, and I also woudln't worry about opening the windows either. I'd also recommend against spraying water on the leaves.
I grow and bloom Phals in a north facing window, so it's not necessarily too dark there.
