I agree with so much of what's already been said. I have some NoID Phals myself and have nothing against them.
One huge reason I like named Orchids and am steering farther away from getting anymore NoIDs is because I AM A NERD. I love the idea of being able to refer to them by name. Doing so enables me to know more about them. There's so, so many different hybrids, and species, out there, the more I saw, the more I got, and the more I felt like I didn't want to take up much space with NoIDs when I could get so many IDs.
I've heard people say here - and it makes sense - that in terms of resale the market value of NoIDs is essentially null, ESPECIALLY if you breed. And while someone said you'd be surprised how many people attend societies and shows I think it's probably also surprising how many people are interested in breeding. I'm coming up on my one year mark of "officially" collecting and growing (had some NoIDs longer than a year though) and last year I attempted over a dozen crosses mostly of named Phals but also some Catts and Zygos. All but three failed, and well even that deserves a more defined answer but I won't get into here.
Following ebay sellers and visiting a real Orchid grower like Hausermann's has really taught me the value of named Orchids and getting them from reputable sellers/growers.

I just saw a photo posted on a facebook Forum of a lovely rose/pink, well grown phalaenopsis taken at an orchid show. The label said 'Phal. amabalis'. Phal amabalis is a pure white phal species! Because the plant was so stunning, what are the chances some people will take a photo and go around looking for the plant under that name? Unless they like white, what a disappointment if they ever find one. Almost like "bait and switch". Just another reason NOT to play the name game if a tag is lost or a noid is purchased.

Oh, wow~ talk about Identity Theft!
Having NOID and keeping them that way is fine, but switching the names is bad whether it is mistake or not, especially for vendors.
Faking names on purpose is a crime! Period! lol

That's like the Orchid Wikia... I was looking for pictures of Paph hookerae and up pops a bullenainum/appletonianum Paph. Sometimes, unrelated pictures do pop up since they appear in the same context as the term you're looking for, but that wasn't the case here: Paph hookerae my behind.

Been there done that!!! I've searched dozens of different Zygo hybrids only to pull up a lot of the same images. Ever search Zygos and notice how many come up labeled as cattleyas? Yeah...
