Im somewhat new to the orchid community and I have set my eye on a neostylis Lou sneary. I was wondering how I should care for this tiny vanda before I purchased it. If you could please give me some tips that would be great!!!
I have one that is in bloom right now. I keep it on a shelf with a Zygo and some not in bloom phals. I have it about 10 inches under a 2 bulb T5 strip. I use a chunky mix for it cause it has nice thick roots and I wait until its almost dry before I water. I keep the humidity between 30 and 50 ( mostly 50 but sometimes I forget to refill the humidifier). The temp is around 75 during the day and drops to 63 or so at night. Its a pretty easy going plant, I have never had any real problems with it. I got it this time last year and it was in bloom and now is blooming again right on schedule. Also it smells amazing!
They seem to be fairly easy going. A south facing window is fine in winter, but I don't know that there's sufficient light during summer. Mine grow year-round in a west facing windows (get direct sun in mid - late afternoon).
I don't do anything to increase humidity, but I don't have a/c, and also don't have heat going a lot in winter ... I think these are probably ok at moderate, even somewhat lower, humidity.
Everyone says this is an easy grower, and I would have agreed last year when I managed to rebloom one. But in the last 4 months, I have had at least 4 or 5 spikes start to grow out above the leaf, and then stall and dry up.
