Sorry if you already mentioned this and I missed it...

What variety of vanilla are you growing?

I want to do this sooo bad!! I just started my vanilla so I know I have a ways to go. Those clusters of pods are AMAZING!!

How is the curing going, have you started?

When I was researching, I got in touch with a man who owns an organic vanilla company and he recommended a book called "Spices, Herbs and Edible Fungi" by G. Charalambous. It is available on Amazon at:
Amazon.com: Spices, Herbs and Edible Fungi (Developments in Food Science): G. Charalambous: Books

It is very expensive and there are only a few pages on vanilla but it is an excellent resource. You can probably find it at a university library, if you have one near.

I will be watching your progress closely!!!! Please keep us posted

Oh! Will you please take lots of of the process!!!!

!!!!!!!

No, I won't be at the orchid show - I'll be in JAMAICA!!!!! Over the entire summer with everyone's schedules, we had exactly 10 days to plan a vacation and of course the orchid show was during the same 10 days.

I have dried all of the beans and they fill a plastic sandwich bag. The fragrance is mild but definately vanilla. I need to buy some vodka and make vanilla liquor and extract.

Have fun in Jam! The same thing happened to me when Brevard Orchid Society had their sale... I planned my vacation in the Keys during it. I was so annoyed.

Vanilla liquor....sounds good!

Wow. The baby must have slept thru the night last night! It is Marty, live and in person. Sort of.
Dorothy you are amazing. I don't know how you do it. I know a lady that used to run a clipping service back before the web. She used to get information for people. You do that. I am going out to the veggie garden to pick now. I am being buried in Sweet Basil. I want some of that vanilla!

WOW! So did you do any sort of "curing" process or just air dried? I'm so impressed! Can you share a photo?

WOW WOW WOW!!!! I just got one of these and mounted it on bark. The one I bought was big. I have only had it about a month. [IMG][/IMG]

This is exactly what I am hoping for. I am newly obsessed with orchids, but have been an avid lover of cooking since I was little and pulling at my grandmas skirt as her kitchen sidekick. I would kill to have my own jar of fresh vanilla beans.
