Phal with a virus?
Default Phal with a virus?

Hello
Posting a couple pictures of a NOID phal ive had for over a year now. it came blemished which at the time i assumed no big deal, just sunburn now i begin to wonder.. These are the reasons im suspect; it has had 2 new leaves come on it both have gotten kind of mushy black spots the older leaf i cut these away ( you can see in the picture) more appeared closer to the crown with a new leaf growing i decided to try and cut it away more. this led to some physical damage on the new leaf ( the while/lighter spot you see) This leaf has also developed a black spot and it seems that the older leaf is starting to be affected at the crown. I have tried peroxide and cinnamon so far. I now submit to you all for your expert opinions. I am sad to lose it as it has a gorgeous flower but it can easily be replaced. and the rest of my plants health is a bigger concern.

Anything mushy makes me suspect fungal or bacterial infection. But I'm definitely not an expert, so hopefully other members will be chiming in.

I've read that if it's fast moving, then it could be bacterial, and slower moving could mean fungal. I've only had one experience with something fast moving, and I'm no expert either.

I would treat it with a systemic fungicide, and cut off any possible infected areas. (This is was I did for possible bacterial infection, and it seems to have slowed things down at least.) you can wait for other suggestions, I'm new and definitely not the most experienced.
Have you checked the roots? The leaves look droopy in the first photo if you've been watering normally, I think droopy leaves can signal a problem with the roots, such as an infection. (Sorry if I'm incorrect)

I got some generic cleary's (systemic fungicide) from amazon that was relatively inexpensive.

Nothing that is in your photos or description suggests "viral" to me. FWIW, you can't diagnose virus from visual appearance.

Likely a bacterial problem. Treat as you have done so far. Also, give your plant supplemental calcium (cal-mag, or try gypsum dissolved in water); calcium helps with disease resistance.

update.. i was looking at this orchid more closely and the rot on the 2nd newest leaf had gone right to the crown. while attempting to remove the visibly mushy leaf i accidentally removed the newest one also.

not sure if it will survive but i figure now its an experiment, i dose it daily with peroxide and other wise let it be.
Today I bought it's replacement on discount the flowers were gone it was over watered and looked awful. I pull it out of its pot and lo and behold nice bright green roots! it could have more certainly but im quite happy with it as its much further along the road then i expected. the newbie is currently drying out on my table while its new media gets ready.
