Maxillaria Tenuifolia 'Green Valley'

Hello folks!

Was walking in Chinatown today and I decided to stop in to a Chinese plant store I usually browse in when I'm in the area.

I was browsing their orchids when I spotted a plant I've wanted for quite some time—maxillaria tenuifolia. It was the only one!

Even though my track record at orchid care hasn't been the best, I've always read about how incredibly fragrant these are and have wanted to try one for years.

I will be keeping it in a west window.

Three questions:

1. Any expert advice on what I can do to ensure it thrives...any bit helps!

2. Should I repot?

3. It was ID'd as maxillaria tenuifolia 'Green Valley', I can't find anything as to what green valley is referring to?

Well I kinda answered question #2 LOL. I was inspecting the plant for a while and I noticed .... You guessed it.... A mealy bug. Full hazmat suit on (just kidding) I went to work. She just got a bath in insecticidal soap and is now resting comfortably in a Physan 20 spa pedicure hahaha.

Let's hope she likes it.

I find the buds difficult to see and usually I discover it is blooming by the fragrance.
These are pretty easy. People seem to grow these all kinds of ways, even mounted. I personally cannot grow in bark so I put mine in red lava rock/basket pot (like most of my orchids) and water like crazy.

In one of my psychosis orchids it also has the name green valley. I would think that it only means it is much greener. Dont really now for sure, but im interested at finding out.

Green Valley is an orchid nursery in Taiwan. This cultivar was most likely bred by them.

I have a Max. tenuifolia. Mine is potted in a combination of bark and lava rock with some perlite thrown in for good measure. I would not repot unless the medium is breaking down. These should be watered and allowed to become almost dry before watering again. They also like bright light (the leaves should look a bit yellow), but be sure to acclimate it to stronger light gradually to avoid leaf burn.

The buds are hard to spot, but the fragrance is like coconut, so you can tell when they are blooming!

Thanks! I did repot ultimately in a bark mix, and in a clear pot so I can see what's going on with the roots as well.

It looks good. Time will tell!
