New Year's Orchid Resolutions
Well, its that time of year again guys. Another year has come to an end. So what to do next year? Here's what I want to do.
-get orchids that actually suit my conditions (I have not been doing that too much) mainly:
Angrecoids (need more of those)
stuff that grows in phal light or less
stuff that grows in full sun for a little more than half of the day
-up the humidity. Mine is around 30 percent or lower in the summer and the Santa Ana winds here make it worse in the fall. Don't know how my thin leaved orchids still bloom for me though
-get shade cloth for my garden window (yes its called a garden window. search it up). My Brassavola nodosa and Blc. Yen Corona 'Green Genie' got sunburnt from that southern garden window in winter. That's how bad it is.
-refrain from touching flowers.
-clean the growing area. I grow all of my orchids in my house on these rolling desks. I store all the materials underneath them. It gets really dirty when sphagnum bits start falling out of the hanging baskets.
So what are your new year resolutions for your orchids? Feel free to share!

Water more.
I'm a severe underwaterer.
Buy orchids that fit my watering habits and conditions.
Finish this mini set-up I've been procrastinating on.
Finally bloom an oncidium.
Get my humidity up. I'm at 20 percent. Sometimes lower.
Branch out more. The most surprising things can do well.

not even going to bother saying "no more orchids until I have that extra shelf space" because every time I do that I just go home with another clearance Phal anyway

Kill less Paphs! Seriously...
Water less (too heavy handed with that water)
Get whatever Paph that is BS to flower and then to keep it growing.
Get reflower some Paphs.
Give away/sell the orchids that obviously don't like my conditions, no matter how pretty they are.
Take good care of all the new orchids I've bought/ordered.
Take better care of all of my orchids than previous year.
Arrange my collection better so it doesn't look so tardy.
Get my hands on a Paph Dollgoldi and a Paph Gloria Naugle. I already have a Paph Delrosi that refuses to flower, so why not two more roth/parvi hybrids that will do the same.

I want to stop feeling guilty when an orchid dies. In truth, I've had trees and all manner of plants both inside and out die, and I don't seem to feel quite as awful about them. (Well, except for my two loquat trees!)
And I share the goal with a lot of you, to acquire orchids that might make it in the conditions I can provide.

This year I would like to...
Update my orchid set up, i.e.: get a big shelf that is attractive for my orchids/ organize them better.
Bloom my Vanda Luzonica
This year though I finally branched into species, Vandas (and bloomed them , and purchased my first time from big leaf orchids. I have had some good success this year that has fueled the addiction!
BTW... the garden picture windows are great!! I would love to see a picture of yours Kevinator.

My orchid resolution for the year:
1. Install a new T5 on the top shelf of my plant rack.
2. Organize the lower rack to make room for more plants.
3. Only buy plants when I have finished items 1 & 2.
4. Get all of this done before the orchid society's show in March, where I will buy a bunch of plants anyway.

I have a show in April with some great Vendors I cannot wait. I am going to try and not buy much before then also so I can get everything I want and have enough room.

I forgot to add that I am only going to buy miniatures! I need more tolumnia and more neos. And... I love them, but no more phals.
