It sounds like you have one elongated growth, taller than normal with some space between nodes, and those are roots trying to grow at each node. Because they are well above the medium in the open air they won't usually grow. Some Paphs are prone to these "climbing" growths. It has always seemed to be that old potting mix, over-watering, crowding and insufficient light could promote this, but some Paphs will do it no matter what.
There is no need to remove it, but if you want to try an experiment, cut it off near the base and treat it as a cutting. Get those root nubs into some damp sphagnum and they may grow. Eventually it should start a new growth near the base and you have a bonus plant.
