Default "Pansy orchid" dying?!?

I can't for the life of me remember this guy's name.....here's what he looked like when I brought it home...."Pansy orchid" dying?!?-imageuploadedbytapatalk1419818901-212369-jpg"Pansy orchid" dying?!?-imageuploadedbytapatalk1419818916-769119-jpg

Now the flowers have dropped (lasted quite a while) but the pseudobulbs are yellowing/browning.....what am I doing wrong?

Hi! The Miltoniopsis looks like it is rotting. How is air circulation. Mine gets medium light with my phals with good air circulation and good humidity. What is your potting medium. They like to stay very moist but not soggy. Make sure your mix dries but holds moisture too, and I would suggest not keeping it permanently in the ceramic pot so you can see the roots. Good luck!

Take the plant out of the pot and check the roots. Do not grow the orchid using that decorative pot anymore. Downsize your orchid's pot to one that will barely fit the orchid's roots. Remove the two leafless pseudobulbs completely and burn them or toss them far, far away from your plants. Change the potting media to fresh medium grade bark. Do not water everyday. For now, I recommend watering only 3 - 4 times a week until you are experienced enough to tell when the orchid's potting medium has dried out enough to water again. Do not soak in water, let the water run through the potting media, make sure the potting media and the pot is draining properly. Do not let the pot sit in water for extended periods of time, they don't like this. I recommend using a clear plastic pot with lots of air slots.

Grow in cold to intermediate conditions, (36 F - 85 F). Do not grow cooler than 36 F.

Put them under moderately bright indirect light.

If you have a place that has excellent air circulation, (like by a window), that'd be great for the plant.

The genus name is Miltoniopsis.

For what it's worth, and I know this is coming a little late, but a LOT of miltoniopsis orchids I see at the stores are in bad shape. I even got some rotting bulbs on mine after I brought them home, and it is no fault of my own. 3 different stores in town had Matsui company miltoniopsis shipments on the same day. Well ALL of them had cold damage on the leaves and were in very poor shape. A week prior, another shipment had half the bulbs with small rots on them and dried up flower spikes.

So I think that these orchids merely do not enjoy being shipped, or the distributors are irresponsible with them.

I just twist off browning bulbs like that at the base. They're not going to make it, so get 'em gone!

I don't think this is your fault, because most of these that I see are not doing so hot at the store in the first place. However, they seem to be extra sensitive to getting any water in their leaves, so make sure to take extra care when watering, or they will rot just like this.

Yup
