Question Phalaenopsis growing a small leaf on an old leaf

Hi all, this is my first post after being a long time reader/lurker. I very much respect the cumulative knowledge present here and so I have a question about something I've not seen nor heard of yet. One of my phals seems to be growing a small leaf, not from the crown as might be expected, but on the surface of an older leaf. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I tried to post a picture but as I'm a new member it would not allow me to. Thanks for any help - and I'm very happy to be here!

Never heard of that before. It sounds like something directly out of a science fiction movie, though. Whatever you do, don't get it wet. Keep it out of bright sunlight. And this is the most important rule, absolutely do not feed it after midnight.

Not something I ever heard of.

Upload a pic to the gallery and then copy and post the link into your next post. We should be able to see what your talking about.

Thanks for the suggestion Judi, I just uploaded the pic to the gallery under the title "new leaf growing on old leaf" - but I still cannot post a direct link to the pic.

I'll keep trying

I checked your gallery, and can see the picture. I have absolutely no idea what that is. Are you sure it is attached, and not a leaf from some other houseplant that has fallen on the Phal maybe?

I edited your post to add the photo.

I agree that it looks like a leaf from another plant ...

I thought it was perhaps a leaf that had fallen as well. I'm not sure how long it has been developing and I'd only just noticed it, but it is attached to and growing from the surface of the larger leaf. My first (naive) guess was that maybe - just maybe it was a keiki though I've never heard of one growing on a leaf before.
I doubt very much that that small leaf is viable though, it's thin and limp and, as can be seen in the pic, beginning to pale already.

I just have not, in my short experience, ever seen anything like it before.

Thank you for the edit WhiteRabbit
