Thanks for the alcohol tip! Facepalm.... I do this with my other orchids.. I don't know why I didn't.
I'll watch for any changes though.
---
When I opened the box, it was a little chilly in there, nothing like when I opened the cattleya shipment in 25°F though!
---
I did use a paper towel and a q tip to wick away what I could. I must not have steady hands.. I also treat new orchids very carefully like they're super fragile...
---
If I put my paph outside right now, it would dry up, but also freeze to death too I would love to be somewhere warmer!
---
Since they're acclimating, I'm watching for signs of rot. (Like my poor young Cattleyas experienced.)
The paph Sukhakulii shed a bottom leaf the first night home. If its black where it came off, does that mean rot, or could it just be old too? https://www.flickr.com/photos/222877...57649917878471
The paph HCM has a bottom leaf with growing brown spots that I'm keeping an eye on. The leaf is also yellowing? I think I may just cut that off for some peace of mind, Idk yet.

Thanks! I'm really loving these paphs! I think they might be my favorite type..

I think shedding those leaves could be due to the stress of the shipping. I also got a batch pf Paphs right before the weather turned really cold, and my Wössner Kolarmi will probably shed its bottom most leaf. The leaf has some brown spots that are growing and the leaf is turning yellow (sound familiar? ). I'm keeping my eye on it, just to be on the safe side, but it seems normal to me.

I'd say that's true with both paphs. Does is mean anything when they're black at the base of the leaf when you pull them off though? Since I'm not familiar with seeing shedding leaves, I'm not too sure what's normal or not.
My Paph. Sukhakulii is bud blasting!!
The spike is starting to shrivel, and parts of the bud are turning brown. The bud is also a bit warped looking.
I thought it was about to open, but now I'm almost positive that it's blasting. Do I need to check to see if it's dry or wet/rotting?

I hope it doesn't, because mine do that occasionally (only the oldest leaves though) and so far so good.
It was to be expected I think, considering the temperatures when it was shipped. Cut the spike off and then wait for it to develop a new growth, and hopefully you'll have another flower within a year.
I don't think you have to worry about rot, unless you've gotten water into the crown and it hasn't dried out properly. My wardii blasted its first bud, but no problems with rot. Maybe wait for a second opinion, just to be on the safe side.
Happy New Year to you and you Paphs.

Thanks Ula
The Mutant:
Since the bud is definitely blasted, should I get it ready to be repotted soon? I read the best time to repot is when it's done flowering, but.. you know. I also want to check the roots.
The grower said that moving up 1" pot size is okay for both paphs, and that repotting would be okay after it was done blooming (Sukhakulii). For the Ho Chi Minh, he said to wait for it to acclimate... so not sure how long exactly.
Does a mix of Leca, charcoal, perlite, and rockwool sound okay for these two?
