Default "dry winter rest"=cold?

So I'm interested in growing these two orchids:

Trichophilia suavis (already purchased, arrives spring)
Lycaste aromatica

Do these need cold in addition to dryness during their winter rest? Or can temperatures remain the same?

Also, what about for orchids in general, does the term "dry winter rest" also mean colder temperatures?

Winter rest doesn't necessarily mean bone dry in all cases. Sometimes, it is. Other times, it's not, but it's not wet either.

Neither does winter rest necessarily require it to be "cold". It can be, but it doesn't have to be. The temperatures can be anywhere around 60 F on the low end, and some orchids with a dormancy period will still go dormant.

Also, by cold, what do you define as "cold", (what are the numerical temperature values you're referring to as "cold")? There are orchids with winter rest periods that do not tolerate anything below 60 F, believe it or not.

Well for my apartment, so far I've been able to leave the heater off in December and it hasn't dropped below 65! Lol! So I'm wondering how much cold is needed for a Lycaste and Trichopilia, and then what types of orchids I should avoid growing since I could give them a dry winter rest but not a very cold one.

Try looking up the geographic origins of the plants or the species in their backgrounds, and then do another for some climatological data for the area, and you can make some good guesses.
