Well i'm going to take a total stab in the dark and call it a hardcane Dendrobium of some type. Leave it in that coarse mix and water is sparingly until the spring when it will hopefully start a new shoot like the one that died.
Good luck with it, hopefully with one healthy cane it'll just reshoot when its ready.
