Default Paph in Intensive Care - Sphag n Bag

I was very disappointed to find out that my Paph Fairrineanum has been going downhill steadily. I checked the roots and there were basically no good ones to save. There was 1 borderline one, but since it still had 3 green leaves, I decided to give the Sphag n Bag method a try. I must admit I was a bit nervous at first, but it doesn't seem like it would pull through if drastic measures are not taken quickly, so I figured...what the heck?

I did a bit of research just to make sure I was on the right track and dipped the entire plant in Physan 20 for a good 10 minutes or so. I also rehydrated the Sphag itself in the Physan so as to not introduce any new bacteria that would impede the Paph's recovery. I also introduced a bit of Superthrive and bagged the orchid right up.

Here is the patient tonight:

Since I haven't done this before, any tips are certainly welcomed and appreciated. I did manage to spot what looked like a new root trying to break through the bottom of the 2 remaining leaves so I guess there is hope. Other than that, keep your fingers crossed, !

I put mine in a small pot filled with sphagnum moss and then sit the plant on top of it, wet it, and place it in a bag sitting at a window to maximise humidity. Works everytime.

I had an Onc. that had no roots and I did kind of like Dendro king. I wrapped spagh around the bottom and put spagh in the bottom of a small pot. I did keep it in a bag for a bit then I just set it by my kitchen sink and I would spray it every morning.

I can't believe it but it did put out new roots after a while. It is growing new roots now and a new growth and the other one is getting bigger and bigger. This method really does work. So fingers crossed and have lots of patients.

So far, the little patient is doing well. I don't have a seedling pad, but I do have a heating pad that was sacrified to a sick kitten a few years ago so I started using that on the lowest setting for a good 4-5 hrs/day. I know it's soon to tell, but the leaves are still a good color and a good texture so I guess it's all good up to now.

I was also thinking that since my 10 year old has an upcoming science project, I would have her use this as her experiment. I have been visually loggin the process with pictures anyways so it just sort of made sense. This also makes her excited for the recovery of this particular orchid, which prying her from the video games is usually quite a challenge so it's kind of nice to have this to share
