Whatever plant it is, my policy is that I don't not chop off anything unless it is dead on its own or diseased. simple and easy!

Yes Katrina, "Dry Rest" or "Winter Rest" doesn't mean dry, just drier. Even after the monsoonal rains have stopped, orchids still obtain moisture from fog and dew in their natural environment.

Either changes in temps and/or light have to be present to tell the plant its active growing season has ended and it's time to work on those bloom spikes for propagation.

Are you saying that the deciduous dens you mentioned don't experience even slightly cooler temps at night?

Not an official "cool" down, nope...not necessary. Naturally temps can be a bit cooler at night in winter vs summer but w/those particular dens it's not necessary to give them that major cooling off in order to initiate buds.

When people read "winter rest" or "cool rest" and/or "dry rest"...they tend to associate that w/the cooling and drying period that (for example) kingianums need. Like I said...just trying to avoid any confusion due to over-generalization.

BTW -- vic-reg is one that does best w/cooler temps and those temps are best maintained year round. Personally, I grew it too warm (much of the year) but it never seemed to mind all that much. It was a vigorous grower and bloomer even w/the higher than recommended temps. FWIW - Just thought I'd mention that tid bit.
