The brown dead spots are likely where they were sucking on the leaf. However the mature scale are little brown or tan discs that need to be scraped off.
I agree with others that said a systemic is best to use as it gets into the plants system and kills them as they feed on the plant. Also continue removing any that you can see. They are bad for hiding deep in crevices and even in the potting media.
Unless re-potting will be hard on the plant, I usually unpot it and give the plant a soak in Malathion, then re-pot in a clean pot with new media and apply the systemic. But I hate scale and have over 100 plants in my greenhouse so I do not want it spreading!
