I always repot new orchids but I wait a few weeks to let them get use to my home then once they are adjusted I repot.
It never hurts to repot. I made the mistake once of repotting my Phal in a clay pot and then did not take into account that clay drys out faster then the plastic it was in. So I almost killed that orchid from lack of water. It made a come back and I know have 2 spikes on the way.
I like to mix my own potting mix. I use fine bark, moss, and perlite. You will need to find what works best for you and your environment because what works for one person in NV might not work for someone in FL.
