Spiking Phal okay to mount? Female
Default Spiking Phal okay to mount?

So, I've got some phals I want to mount on a tree, but most of mine are spiking right now...is this a safe time to do it, or should I wait until they're done blooming? I'm thinking I *should* wait but I'm really want to do this now! Well, tomorrow, anyway

I'd estimate spikes to be about 3-4 inches at this point.

Thanks!

Best time to mount would be when the plants grow new roots.
But I would give it a try. Humidity should be high enough where you life, so the plants won't be stressed too much.
Could be that you loose some spikes though

I would wait until spring, Darlene. The next three months can bring some strong cold fronts before the orchid gets a chance to establish itself on the tree. Mounting it will cause some stress and then cold fronts and especially cold wind, will cause even more stress. If you mount it in March, it will have several months to establish itself on the tree and grow some good roots.

Okay, that settles it. I'm gonna mount one and leave the other one(s) alone!!

When you decide not to decide, isn't that a decision?!

Thanks, guys.

One thing I have learned is that you learn be setting both your successes and your failures in ways that just following others' advice cannot teach you, so your experimental design of one and not the other is a good idea!

That was supposed to be "by seeing" both your successes and your failures.
