Default Iron in water

Hi- I had another newby orchid person ask me if iron in her water would hurt her orchids, She is on a well. I told her I did not think so, I have iron in my well water and they dont seem to mind it. Would appreciate knowing if I told her correctly. Thanks

I don't think excess iron will harm orchids at all. It might even be beneficial.

Iron is a very important nutrient for plants, and is often the limiting factor on plants in aquaria. But too much of anything can be bad. Depends on the exact orchids and how much iron there is.

Iron toxicity is a theoretical possibility, but very uncommon. Most likely, if the water is palatable for human consumption the iron will not be an issue.

I agree with PMM.

I have seen evidence of iron toxicity, but the person's well water was SO high in Fe that it stained everything.

They drink the water so I have told it will likely not hurt her plants. Thanks to everyone who responded so quickly.
