Phalenopsis Leaves Fell off/Crown Rot
Default Phalenopsis Leaves Fell off/Crown Rot

Hi, I have a 1.5 year old Orchid that was doing quite well for a while, then like an idiot I over watered it (like every beginner) and it got quite a bit of root rot.

I did some research and repotted it, in orchid potting medium (mostly wood), but noticed it still wasnt thriving after two months, I didnt water it much, but whatever roots were left rotted away again and only a very small root was left, it had two decent sized leafs and one small root left.

I repotted it again in a clay orchid pot (that is full of holes) and moved it to moss only.

Last week it got a new leaf growth going, in the moss, looked promising. the last few days I noticed the existing leaves turning yellow. Today they both fell off!!! I pulled the remainder out of the pot and there were some old dead leaves on the bottom. I pulled them back and found a ton of crown rot!! noooooo!!! I put some hydrogen peroxide on the crown rot hoping to stop it.

Now there's almost nothign left of this orchid. I think its pretty much done for, and that makes me really sad.

Can anything be done to save this guy?

Here is a pic of what it looks like now. There's one decent root and a nub.. and a very tiny leaf growth, but the crown rot seems extensive...

I'm sorry, but that one is a goner Some can survive rather extensive crown rot (but may take years to have a bloom sized plant again), but only if the roots are good.
Some can survive extensive root rot, but not without foliage.
This plant has no way to make food, nor take up and store water or nutrients, and no stored food or water ...

Think of it as a learning experience, and an opportunity to get a new one

I'm sorry but I agree with Sonya. I've been told that you are not an orchid grower until you've killed your weight in orchids.
