Thank you everyone...seems like I was just panicking for no reason. The bud that was the most yellow cracked open today!!!! YAY!!!!

But I still don't understand the yellow? Even in tarev's pics above. No matter what color the bud is it turns yellow-ish when it's ready to go? How weird!

Oh and one more thing, I gave it a 'shot' of fertilizer 2 days ago...do you think that action maybe pushed it over the edge to open up?

I am adding one more pic as a thank you present of my Slc. Little Hazel which opened a second flower yesterday. There are 4 more to come on the same stem.

Lovely blooms!

Don't know why it yellows either..so I only use that as a visual indicator, the blooms are coming out soon! I hope you take another photo when the whole spray is out!

I normally do not give my orchids any fertilizer when it is blooming..I just do it again after all the blooms are out. But some growers do..so it would be to your preference I guess.

I usually keep mine outdoors until the end of Oct. then bring them in. It does seen to take a long time for the buds to open but it is partly because we are wanting them to bloom right now. Sometimes giving a little fertilizer does seen to make them come quicker. I fertilize once a month during winter and weakly when I water the rest of the time, but I also throw a little slow release on the surface for the summer. They are heavy feeders.
