Need advice for a Sick Milt
Default Need advice for a Sick Milt

Hello all!

I was gifted this Milt in August by my daughter.

The tag says Milt. (Ambre x Lynne Waihee) 'Cream Puff'. It had white flowers with a burgundy area in the center,. Very pretty.

The flowers looked slightly wilted and fell off within the next few days. The leaves started turning yellow.

Immediately re-potted and found a water soaked rotting piece of 'Oasis sponge' material in the middle of the roots. Which has also been the case with the other two I've received!

Having carefully washed away this material into which the roots were entangled. I then cut away a lot of the dangling roots that looked bad. Repotted in bark with some moss added. It is in the coolest area of the porch as I've read they like the cooler temps. With my other two Milts which are/seem to be doing okay there.

These two have also been gifted to me, as I never buy Milts because I know they like cooler areas and I live in a coastal, hot area.

The 'Cream Puff' has since lost all it's leaves save for this one which is attached to a slender bulb.

Does it have a chance of survival ?

All advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.

Bark didn't work well for my Miltoniopsis. I found CHC with some sponge rock is much better for mine. They can also have warmer temps so you don't need to try and cool it. Mine do fine in 60s to 80s and bloom. Now they do like a lot of water bc of their thin roots but not sitting in it. I had them outdoors in summer this year. I think your plant can recover if given the right treatment. Good luck!

I don't know if it has a chance, however I had a similar experience and ended up with a plant just like yours', and after 3 years I had this (see pic below).

What I did.
re potted in smaller pot.
Brought the plant in to the coolest room in the house, and just happens that the room has a south facing window, so it got filtered light { I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area (East Bay) often have hot days with cool over cast mornings}.
Water it every 7 days with room temp distilled water and every 4 watering I gave it kelp extract and just waited. The reward was what you see and this summer a little flower stem with two buds, sorry no picture of that.
Now she is back in the balcony again in the coolest part of it but will be coming in again once night temps get closer to low 40.
So don't give up and good luck.

Thanks LovePhals! Thanks LizB88! will be looking for CHC as well as kelp.

Perhaps that will also help the other two which have been growing quite slowly as well.

Than you!
