The roots indicate that the watering is correct. The vent, lack of humidity or a cold draft would be my guess. My daughter brought her phal home last winter and I was out of space. I unthinkingly put it where it was blasted by cold air every time someone opened the door. The flowers wilted and dropped. Opps. Heating vents and lack of humidity do the same thing.

Should I try misting for more humidity? I have tried to create a micro-climate by placing all my house plants together in one area -- it happens to have a vent though! In the thee spot in the kitchen, there is also a vent. Other areas of house are hard wood so I don't want my plants there in case of leaking. I think I will cover one of the vents -- the one near my plant display...

Misting likely won 't do a lot and you risk getting water in the crowns. That vent is likely the culprit. Can you set your plants on humidity trays to prevent water getting on hardwood? Or line the shelves to contain drips.

To protect my wooden table and, in the past, the floors, I use clear plastic drop cloth (the thickest just to be extra safe), found in the painting section. It is rather unsightly, however. Silken's ideas are really good. Good luck!

I have started watering a bit sooner as well as covering the vent near my table. None if the subsequent blooms are weird looking like the first two but the first two are still funny looking. I'm okay with that. Any advice would be great but I've learned something about he draft thanks to you awesome people :-

Your original blooms likely won't change but hopefully from here on in, blooms will be normal.

Ripening fruit can be deadly for flowers but I don't know about the plant itself. Your roots look good to me but sitting by a vent maybe not the right thing...Jean

Watering slightly sooner based on chopstick still a bit wet (used to let it get drier); sealed off the vent near the plant display.
