Nutgirl i use 5 gallon buckets, i full them up with water and let them sit before watering. I use a gallon milk container to haul the water over to the 5 gallon bucket. Its a pain but the advantage to it is the water evaporates the chlorine out by letting it sit 24 hrs. I dont know for sure, but i assume chlorine cant be good for orchids

Wow $800? I think I'll save my pennies and get a greenhouse. Thanks for the info!

Bulbofett harbor freight has a small greenhouse for 299$ but sometimes go on sale for 199$. I have one that my orchids go in for the summer and every season they thrive in it. Watch the ads for a sale!

This is my first winter with more than 3-4 Orchids & since my addiction began i've acquired quite a few more...so I appreciate hearing what others do that works for them because watering is definitely a chore now and can take up a lot of time seeing as indoors I do the whole routine of hauling everybody one by one to the bathroom (summer outdoors made things easier). It seems taking out a shelf or getting a bigger unit is the way to go but then there's the issue of lighting for the lower shelves.

I think putting some kind of water catching situation under the shelves would save a lot of time because as we see in your case you don't have to move them. Even if they just drain into a bucket that you have to then manually dump, you save time by not moving each and every one. Besides, I can get a bit reckless me thinks and bound to damage somebody a bit every couple of trips (just knocked two buds of of two diff Phals ).

Cheers!
