Too much water is redundent for a phal. Once the velemin is saturated it does not take in any more water. Gas exchange happens in the roots. During the night, they breath out waste products. The roots actually have small holes that open up at night. You need to think in terms of goldfish, really. It you do not arieate and recirculate water, toxins and waste products build up and the fish dies. Aireating is either by making sure there are adequate spaces between the medium, or by using a wet dry cycle. With moss it has to be a wet dry cycle. Another root killer is fertilization with inappropriare chemicals.

Remember in their natural state the roots are exposed and in constant humidity.

I did once long ago, a re-potting on a brand new ( Florist purchased )- Phal, THIS TREMENDOUS success. To this day Blooms away like crazy much to the envy of my neighbors. I truly love and respect this forum and all this wonderful advices
