Basal Keikis and Phal ID Help?
I'm not looking for a solid ID, but the flowers on this Phal look different from my others, which makes me think care and potting are slightly different. It reminds me of hybrids I have seen of Phal pulcherrima.
Also, it has what look to be basal keikis. I'm cool with this. I bought the plant because it was pretty and I wanted to experiment, but one of the keikis looks sort of cane like and I wondered if that was normal.
Thanks for the help!

Thanks!
I'll get a better picture as soon as I find my olloclip. That pic doesn't really do the blooms justice. There is a soft orangey tone to the center of the flowers. Also the shape and the clusters of flowers caught my eye, it's probably twenty flowers on a single spike. I figured, I liked the plant enough to try to grow it from keikis if I had to.

I can't help with the ID of this, but I would agree that this looks like a basal keiki to me. If so, that means that you can get one heck of a display in the future!

looks like a doritas/phalaenopsis hybrid to me :-) aka doritaenopsis (dtps. for short)
It got confusing because nobody kept track of their hybridizing, so now ALL phals and dtps are classified as phalaenopsis.
Regular phal care should be just fine though :-)
EDIT: Could also have phal equestris in its parentage.
Both possible reasons why it looks a little different than your other phals.

Doritis is no longer a separate genus. DNA testing was done in 2009 and it was merged with Phalaenopsis. Many growers still have not caught up with this name change.
Most miniature Phals have equestris in their parentage and I have several equestris hybrids. This doesn't look quite the same, but equestris is a good guess and probably one of the parents of this Phal. The shape of the bloom is totally different. I know that there's one Phal that prefers to grow in leaf litter, tipped onto it's side in the wild, but can't remember which one it was.

I agree with the possible Doritis parentage. I recently found out that Doritis are prone to basal keikis so that being the case would not surprise me at all. I have one that hasn't even gotten big enough to flower for me yet but it is putting out its second basal keiki.

Its a gorgeous flower....but it is very hard to ID this orchid since it is a hybrid. The basal keikis are not cane like....they have to reach for the light so they extend their crown like tubes and will right itself as it grows bigger.
