Lizard living on my orchid?????????
Last week, I was going to water one of my orchids when a small lizard/gecko/reptile jumped off my plant at me. I was so startled that I almost threw the plant across the room. That was last Monday. I haven't seen it since, and I forgot about it. Mind you, I have my plants on the 5th floor of an office building. How did that thing even get here??? Anyway, I was just going to water the plant again, and there it was!!!! Ick! I don't mind reptiles outside, but in my office they sort of freak me out. Is it possible that this thing is LIVING in my orchid???? Has this happened to any of you before????

Small lizards and tree frogs often hitchhike in on plants brought up from down south. Count your blessings. Snakes aren't as common but they do come in on occasion as well.

Btw your lizard is a Mediterranean Gecko, a species which became established in FL for certain, and possibly in other warmer areas.

It is some kind of gecko. Really kind of cool! Probably non-native, but there are a number of species that have become naturalized in warm climates of the USA.

I have all sorts of anoles and skinks around my plants. I love them! They are the best organic pest controllers ever. I've never had them live inside my house though. They've occasionally hitched a ride in the potting medium, but I just set them free outside.

Wow! I didn't realize that this was a common thing. I have a new appreciation for my little gecko friend. I'm just left wondering how he got all the way up here....

Aww, it's so cute!
If I ever found a tropical lizard in a new orchid, I'd probably keep it as a pet. I don't think a Florida lizard would survive outside in our winters.

My orchids invite their friends over all the time! They are relatively quiet and don't drink too much....so I'm hospitable! Even at night...they love to lay around on the orchids like on a hammock! They sleep there and what's weird is that the same ones come back to their favorite spaces!
