Default Speed of spike development in pleurothallis

I have had my Pleurothallis mathildae for almost two years. For the first year it received inadequate care (I treated it like a Phal) so was very, very unhappy. But since last fall it's been in a little terrarium and has been super happy, making all sorts of new leaves. A little while ago (honestly not sure how long it's been) I noticed what I thought was the start of a spike. I think it's been growing, but VERY slowly. So I was curious how long it should take from the time a spike first emerges to the time where it reaches it's full length. Mostly I want to know if I should still hold out hope for a flower I'm dying to see it in bloom!

Is there anything special that should be done to a plant while it is developing a spike?

Here are some photos of what I think/hope is a spike (sorry, my camera was not thrilled about taking pics of something so tiny).

That does look like a spike to me (from my limited experience with a couple of Masdies)...
Don't know how long these guys take - I would guess maybe a couple of months ...

Hopefully someone who it's familiar with this one can advise
