Hello everyone, this is my first post. I am new to growing orchids (about 2 years) so far so good I have managed not to kill a one. I recently was given a Polyrrhiza lindenii (ghost orchid) it a very small seed grown & mounted on a stick. I have been trying to get all the information that I can but haven't come up with much. I did find an article that stated the ghost orchid need stale air. I have no idea how to do this. Any information would be appreciated.
I have also heard that Polyrrhiza sallei is an easier 'version' to grow, just with a slightly smaller (more petite) flower than Lindenii Data Use Agreement - GBIF Portal
But I have yet to find a picture or more info on it.
Just thought to pass that along.
Hi ceciliaL, and welcome to the Orchid Board. I have tried to grow a couple with no luck. Although they are known to grow in a fish tank to replicate swamp like conditions. Stale air can be achieved by a fish tank. (no fans). I plan on Trying another one soon and plan on getting a tank and putting some river rock on the bottom and adding water and then hang the plant above the water. I will get a hood that has fluorescent lights. Here is a members comments on how they successfully grow theirs. Polyrhizia lindenii (ghost orchid)
Thanks flhiker, I currently have moved it orchid to another stop in the greenhouse where it is hunging just
above a on wooden container with water and a bubbler in it. I have a few water plants in it. It in stick mounted. I have had the Ghost Orchid since Sept. of this year so far it is still living, but doesn't not seem to be growing very fast. It is only about the size of a dime.
