Default New to orchids - Paphiopedilum Callosum

Hi all,

I am just getting into orchids and got a Paphiopedilum Callosum hybrid for Christmas. I am new so I am really not sure how to take care of it. Ive been researching and have found very different opinions and nothing really concrete on this species. Basic information would be helpful. Right now the orchid has two beautiful flowers that have just opened up for me last week.

How often should I water it? Should I let the soil dry out between waterings? One thing Ive noticed is the bottom leaf has turned a bit yellow since I have received the plant. Is this normal? If not is this a sign I am doig something wrong and can fix it?

As for lighting Issues and temperature controls. I live in California near Sacramento which has a very Mediterranean climate. The air is fairly dry and no where near tropical conditions. I'm a college student so I don't have them money for a fancy greenhouse or humidifiers. I put the plant pot on top a tray with rocks and water in it to increase the humidity. I also put a bit of spanish moss (really cool plant) around the base to try and increase the humidity a bit. Is this enough?

How often should I fertilize the plant? I know this is a lot of questions but if anyone has experience with this species and would like to share their knowledge, please do. The flowers are so beautiful and I'm worried that I will kill the plant. Thank you!
