I am in northern NJ. This year I put all my Aussie Dendrobiums (abt 50 plants) outside under a shade cloth. After 10 days I took the shade cloth off, in full direct southern exposure. Plants get water twice a week (+ whatever rain falls), and fertilzer every gwo weeks.
There has been no sun damage to plants, and all have grown well.
This group included 10 kingianums, 2 speciosums, 1 delicatum and abt 35 hybrids (incl some mostly tetragonum), as well as 10 reed stem epidendrums. The Epis are a bit red in the leaves, but that is OK.
Plants will come inside in early Oct. At that point I reduce watering & fertilizer till they bud up in Jan or Feb.
