Earwigs don't eat green growth. They eat old rotting debris down in the pot.

When earwigs get into the growing crown of a Cym. they will eat through the new leaves, leaving holes as the leaves elongate and mature.

Wow. I didn't know that. I've had earwigs forever and never had any issues with them as far as flowers or new growth is concerned. I'll keep an eye out for them.
