See? It is getting ready to bloom yet that front leaf is getting ready to croak. Thats what it does and never gets bigger. This sucker is at least 3 yrs old.

once the spike is initiated, the plant won't grow further. blooming takes a toll on the plant and it will lose its leaves sooner or later, plus old age. also, sometimes jewels can just be fussy and if the conditions are less then ideal, so will the growth be. anyway, you should look for new growth a few weeks after blooming. in the meantime, you can use the flowers to properly ID the plant.

I cannot wait to see the blooms!
I have a Ludisia and I actually like the flowers even if they are not said to be impressive.
