FCC/AOS - Orchid Board

Hope this is posted in the right place!

I can't seem to find a link to a list of all the orchids (or even the recent ones) that have been awarded the First Class Certificate by the American Orchid Society.

I'm looking to expand my collection - why not go with the best? If I could access that list, my own "wish list" wold automatically get much bigger!

To research the FCCs awarded or any other AOS award, you need to subscribe to either Orchid Wiz or the AOS Awards Quarterly or whatever the new name of their publication is. Orchid Wiz gives you the added value of getting the names of almost all the awards given from different orchid judging systems around the world.

It is a worthy goal to acquire FCC/AOS awarded plants but you may be thwarted. Although there are old FCCs which have been mericloned, most new ones are on plants which are personally held by the exhibitors and will be unavailable to you.

I would advise you to look at lesser awards too, particularly the AMs or equivalent from other judging systems. In any case, check the date of the award as a 1950 FCC may not have the quality of an HCC of today due to superior breeding.

You can always google image FCC/AOS and see what comes up. But just because a plant received this award doesn't necessarily mean you will enjoy growing it. Some FCC's are on species that only bloom once a year, with blooms that only last a week or two. I personally like these forums and Facebook for finding new orchids because the people can tell you how often it blooms and how they grow it, and they may give or trade you a division.

Yup! When I first came here I fell in love with a Cattleya one of the members posted. I still haven't found one for sale, but it got me into growing Cattleyas.

It is Sc. Crystelle Smith "BK orchids". I've never seen it available. I've called multiple nurseries, and private growers. Nothing.

Try Waldor Orchids in south Jersey.When I've been there he's had them. Think I've seen it also on Carter & Holmes site.Plant shouldn't be that difficult to find.
