Default Leathery leaves turning yellow with several new spikes

I'm confused, I know orchids are delicate and need a lot of attention but although I thought I was doing everything the way is suppose to my orchid's leaves are turning yellow and leathery. However I pulled it out and noticed that there are several new spikes growing and the roots seem to be okay. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong? I water them once a week, they are in my kitchen facing the window (West). Thank you!!!

It could be that way either due to poor roots, or due to underwatering. Basically it's dehydrated but rooting/rotted roots can cause that just as much as underwatering.

The new roots are looking hopeful. I would bury those and then don't be tempted to keep pulling it up to see how they are doing, they like to be settled.

Your medium looks good and airy and like it may dry quickly. How often do you water?

In the first foto, the pot looks too large for the plant. They like to be more moist and too big a pot and being clay and even too large a bark mix could be stressful. West windows might be too hot this time of year. Early AM light is better-indirect. You'll get lots more info from others. Keep at it!

Yeah, looks thirsty! Luckily all those new roots should help it recover, I'd just up the waterings. Still let it dry between waterings but don't let it sit dry for long. How often are you watering it now? Some of the old leaves may never fully recover but hopefully it will put out new, healthy ones once you find out what it likes.

Those are very nice roots. A smaller pot. Do you have a way to get some humidity to those roots? If it were mine, I would re pot, then water it two or three times a day. It is stressed big time and the root making is taxing it. What are you feeding it? Do you have a source of liquid kelp. Id go with many small feedings with kelp instead of one weekly feeding. With good drainage, watering is not a problem as long as the crown is kept facing down.

It needs to go into intensive care for a while, maybe even semi hydro or a fish tank.

There are not enough mature roots to keep this hydrated right now so the older leaves have had to keep this growing. They lost a lot of moisture to the new roots, which are too immature to hydrate the older leaves. Water this every few days or even, with this open media, every day. I don't know where you live or your environment but needless to say, this plant is dehydrated. I would not repot it. I wouldn't worry about the size of the pot and the amount of media this is in. What is important is to get this hydrated. Water it often. The old adage of potting into a small pot just large enough to fit the roots, has it's origins in media that stays wet for a long time. Sphagnum moss, and coco husk are wet type media. Keeping an orchid too wet creates an environment conducive to fungal and bacterial rot at the roots. But with new bark, leca, new moss loosely place around the roots, this just isn't likely to create the conditions needed for those pathogens. The large amount of bark actually is a good thing as it will likely create a more moist, humid condition that the new roots will like. These roots are too immature at this point to absorb much of anything so wait awhile before you start feeding this plant. I would pot it up with the roots buried slightly or if already potted, place some more bark on top them. Just a little to help keep these new roots humid.
