I have a few phals on my Wishlist and the only place that has them is orchids. com. I have seen a lot of negative reviews- but if you can't find them anywhere else .. do you order? The plants I am looking for are Phal Hilo Lip 'Catnip' (or 'Winterfrost') and Phal Natasha.
What does everyone else do if their wish list plants are only available from a vendor that doesn't have the best reputation.

Have you tried Big Leaf Orchids? Vast variety and top drawer plants. My wish list can be extended and postponed until I find the right vendor for me,just sayin'!

I agree with DeaC with trying Big Leaf. If it's not listed in his store you can always send Peter an email and ask if he has any. Not all the plants he has available are listed. Sometimes you gotta ask.

Big Leaf Orchids, Fragrant and Novelty Phalaenopsis

If he doesn't have any, try Louisiana Orchid Connection
Same thing goes here if its not listed ask. They also list on ebay under laorchidjohn.

As an afterthought....I've bought from orchids.com several times. Only had a problem once and they made it right for me right away. Issued a credit. I would say that you should check the roots and potting media straight away when you get a plant (if you decide to order from them) Don't wait the 30 recommended days to repot if you have to and don't water it right away as they suggest, only if it needs it!!

I've looked at his before and my only problem is that the phals all seem to be NoIDs, which is fine if you like NoIDs!

I third, fourth, fifth Peter at Big Leaf. Lovely plants and I've never had a problem.

I seem to recall that around the time I joined, an OB member ordered some plants from orchids.com for this exact reason. They had something she wanted, and no one else did. I believe that her plant came with spider mites crawling all over the place.

They are kind of expensive compared to other sources, but when they have what you want... their prices might be worth it. I would NEVER buy Phal. Bellina var. Coerulea from them. 60$? No way. I purchased mine for 30$ and have seen it for a similar price elsewhere... but they have a lot of hybrids I've never seen before, including one that I'm seriously thinking about ordering.

That said... the stories I've read, make me think that I would make an order from these guys only when I have NOTHING else in my quarantine space and I'd probably treat them with physan and a dose of Bayer Rose and Flower as soon as I opened the package, just to be safe.
