Doritis Champorensis…what is going on here?

I got this little Doritis as a free plant that was thrown in as a thanks for a large order. Ive had it for 6 or 8 months and even though it has nice leaves and nice roots its never attempted to spike so I figured it was still pretty young. Today I was watering and I noticed what looked like a leaf down in the roots. I took a closer look and found what looks like whole new plant. I have never had a plant form a keiki but I thought on phals it happened from a spike? Is their anything special I need to do for this plant?

Congrats on your basal keiki! Plants will keiki from both the mother and spikes.

This species does have the habit of forming them and when you leave them with the mother plant make great specimen plants with both mother and keiki blooming together.

You don't need to do anything, just keep on treating it the way you have. After all, it is what got you to this point!

This species is famous for growing keiks off the basal growth but will also grow them from a grow point on a root. I had the normal pink version who grew a keiki several inches from the main plant on a root growing through the wood basket.

I was expecting spikes more like my mini phals but that will be gorgeous! Mine is the pink variety, I am excited to some day see what the flowers look like lol. Thank you both so much for sharing your experience and congratulations!
