Dendrobium - Fungus
I have two Dendrobiums that I purchased from Hawaii and of course they both have the fungus that causes black spots, yellow etc. Is there a way to save the plants? If I pull all the leaves off do I have a chance of future stalks not having the fungus? Or is it a total lost cause....
Thanks-

Welcome to the Orchid Board drakekr03!
I do not think you would want to pull off the leaves for your two plants. That would cause them to die? But if your new aquisitions have fungus, you should not accept those plants. I would contact your vendor and ask them about it.
How did you arrive at the conclusion that this is a "fungus that causes black spots, yellow etc."? The reason I ask is that I have also received Dendrobium and other varieties of orchids from various vendors from Hawaii with little black spots but I never thought they were fungus or harmful to the plant. In fact, some of my plants with those black spots have been around for several years.

Yes, I agree you should contact the seller about it. If not, you can put 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide to the roots gently, pour slowly waiting for the Hydro-Perox to react to avoid more fungus infection and eventually, death of the orchid. Pictures would help

Oh, now I can see! You should really contact that vendor! This orchid is close to dying or maybe not. It can still be saved but it's a very long process. I hope it will be ok and survive for you! But you should really contact that vendor!!

The plants were bought a few months ago but the problem didn't start until a few weeks ago, so I am not sure I can return them. Is there something I can do to save them?

I think you should not let any direct light touch the orchid or even long and bright indirect light exposures. The yellowing maybe caused by too much sun. And I am not sure if that is a virus, an infection, or maybe just a previous infection that was treated a long time ago and the orchid is trying to recover. That's what I can just say sorry.

Mmmm... so these plants didn't arrive on your doorstep in this condition? I'd need to know much more about their environmental conditions which you have provided since receiving them in order to advise.

I live in Oklahoma so I have placed them outside on my back porch in the shade, watering 1-2 times per week, but the spots started to appear and just get worse, no idea what to do. I put them on the porch because I thought orchids liked humidity and we have tons.

Fungicide sprayed on the plant might help.
