I get how strongly you feel about this; such things must always be the call of the owner of the plant.....but the tips on the emerging roots do not look healthy at all. I doubt they can take in any nutrition. I shared what i have done and which worked, tho not with a plant beyond saving. In this case, I would cut the black roots tips off with a sterile blade and dust....along with what I delineated,

If there is a bacterial infection present, that could spread, or at the very least hold the plant back from making new growth of any kind. Re what the plant is "going thru), my take is, having to fend off some bacterial infection is the main burden. So, while the removing the bad parts (along with lower leaves, for the reason I shared),may sound draconian.....that's only brief.

For me, the goal would be to let the plant devote its future energy to producing healthy new roots and leaves.

Black tips on new roots....speak volumes.

As usual, my opinion...based on what I have done in such cases.

Those root nubbins were there when I brought this phal home a week or so again- not sure they will start growing again or not. When I first mounted this on a stick I removed the mushy rotten roots and one yellow leaf and that is all I will be removing now. Today I trimmed the threads from the old rotten roots a little closer to neaten stuff up. When I dunked it I checked it over again- nothing mushy anywhere, even on the little roots with black tips.

Definitely not taking off any leaves- there are only three. And I don't really want to cut off any more tissue. The only change I'm planning on making is checking the dollar store for a wider mouthed vase for the ICU for this plant. :) I'm not sure I want to dust with cinnamon- I don't want to desiccate the tissue.

Thanks for the advice to soak the whole plant, Brooke! It's made a visible difference in a couple of my plants. :) :)

You are certainly welcome - when you have no to almost no roots, the leaves need the moisture via the soak so they don't go downhill too.
